What are the key challenges facing startup investors in key ecosystems? Axis Innovation in partnership with Porto Digital brought international investor luminaries to engage with Porto investors and corporations on October 29th.
The session at the Casa de Musica brought top investors from Portugal together with leading international investors representing corporate investors, VCs angel investors and corporations. Filipe Araujo, Porto’s Vice-Mayor and City Councillor for Innovation and Environment addressed the challenges of Porto and how private investors and corporations can play a part in solving them. Peter Cowley, President of EBAN (European Business Angel Network) addressed the issues of “Growth vs. profitability” which has been quite a hot topic in light of the recent WeWork story.
Hussein Kanji, Founder of Hoxton Ventures (UK) 150 million euro fund who invests across Europe addressed the different goals for early stage and later stage investors. Founder of the UK Business Mix, David Page the former Director of Digital Transformation at Visa Europe spoke on the challenges of startups and multinationals. Setting expectations and timetables is also an important challenge- brought by Dana ben Yosef, founder of Secondary Prime and former CEO of international scaleups.
